Project Overview

Design Sprint - 4 members in 4 days

Our task was to provide a compelling design solution for a non-profit in a four-day design sprint. Discovering an area where a digital solution can improve the organization.

GOAL
Increasing donations from individuals to the organization by providing transparency and giving donors more control.

Selecting the non-profit organization

Polar Bears International Is made up of a passionate team of conservationists, scientists, and volunteers—working to secure a future for polar bears across the Arctic.

Donors are more likely to donate when they see the impact of their contributions.

Donations were the main source of revenue for this organization.  There has been a decrease of $2.5 million between the year 2018 and 2019. Our goal was to find ways to increase the contributions to the organization. Here are some insights we discovered through secondary research.

80
Of all donations to charities & Non-profits come from individuals
20
Increase in 2020 in online giving.

Key Insights

Educate & Awareness

• Raise awareness on the dangers polar bears face and how it affects humans
• Need more educating of people about polar bear conservation

Empathy Towards Polar Bears

• Need to make a connection of empathy towards saving polar bears
• Apparent lack of a personal or emotional connection to polar bear.

Donations & Money

• Worthiness of donating to cause is questioned
• Not reaching personal satisfaction after donation

Trust & Transparency

• Lack of transparency of where the donation money will go
• Hard to build trust amongst donors to consistently donate

The power of choice

Increasing awareness was one way to increase donations to further educate and spread the issue. When choosing an organization to donate to, trust is one of the most important factors. Having no control over how donations are spent creates doubt and hesitancy among donors.

Design Question

How might we clearly communicate with donors where their money goes to incentivize them to become a long-term donor?

Persona

We conducted interviews and conducted secondary research on a potential new donor to create this persona. In order to contribute to something he cares about, he wants more control over his contributions.
